Selecting three key beauty staples, photographer Jessica Griffiths reimagines the children’s story classic; casting garden insects opposite Gucci beauty.

An amber bee admires it’s reflection on Poudre De Beauté Mat Naturel Face Powder, seemingly to regard it’s beastly fur. The delicate bee’s wing compliments the honey undertones, available in twelve varying shades for a seamless match. The lightly floral scent attracts the nose like a bee to a flower.

A spindly ant scales the megalith Rouge à Lèvres Satin Lipstick in Odalie Red, with GUCCI dwarfing it’s small frame. Plucked from the first Gucci Makeup collection by Alessandro Michele, the tiny ant seems to echo the mantra “authentic beauty lies in imperfection”. With red being forever a timeless classic, this long-lasting lipstick is also available in 36 different colours from daring Crystal Black to fun Vantine Fuchsia.

Another first from Alessandro Michele under the label, Gucci Mémoire d’Une Odeur is crafted to “transcend gender” becoming the Italian brand’s debut unisex fragrance. Forged on a scent of Roman chamomile designed to celebrate and build on pleasant memories; the opulent gold and blue green Memoire d’une Odeur eau de parfum bottle reflects onto the translucent snail evolving it into a jewel.

Gucci creates gilded treasures that bestow glamour yet with a contemporary message of authenticity. No longer are luxury brands trying to fool us into dreaming for better, Gucci is finding the beauty in history and the everyday; allowing the space to explore the beauty and the beast.

We can’t wait to see what other truths Alessandro Michele hatches at Gucci make-up.
