Josefine Kaldheim – In Her Own Time

She never rushes blond hair.
That is the first thing people learn about Josefine Kaldheim once they sit in her chair in Copenhagen. Her approach is almost defiant in an industry built on speed: one client at a time, no double bookings, no distractions. “Blond needs time,” she tells people, and what she means is not only chemistry and technique, but attention. The kind that cannot be split. Kaldheim, a Norwegian hair stylist based in Copenhagen, did not grow up imagining this level of certainty. She comes from Haugesund, a coastal town defined by distance, water, and waiting. She is the oldest of three, with two younger brothers, and for much of her childhood she was, by her own description, deeply afraid. She wouldn’t take the bus alone.

She watched rather than stepped forward. Courage, at that stage, belonged to other people. Today, courage is part of her daily routine. Her professional foundation was formed early. She trained at Agenda Hair in her hometown of Haugesund, where she learned the importance of precision, patience, and respect for craft. After moving to Copenhagen, she continued to refine her skills at STUHR, working within a fast-paced salon environment that challenged her both technically and personally. Her move to Copenhagen was not smooth or romantic. Learning Danish happened in real time—through conversations with clients, colleagues, and suppliers. Mistakes were made out loud. It was exhausting and, at times, humbling. But it sharpened her presence. Presence became her signature.

Today, Josefine works independently from a calm, intimate studio setting in Copenhagen, where she rents space and focuses on giving each client her full attention. Clients know that when they book with her, they are not competing for her time. The “secret” behind her blond work—the kind that looks effortless and lived-in—is not a product or a formula, but time spent with a single person, listening as much as applying color.

When asked what treatment she would recommend right now, her answer is immediate: moisture and shine. During the cold, grey months of winter, she encourages clients to book a gloss treatment to enhance shine, followed by a deeply hydrating treatment to restore balance.

Beyond the chair, Kaldheim works on private projects and commercial campaigns. Weddings hold a special place for her. “It’s the trust,” she says. “People let you into one of the most emotional days of their lives.” Josefine Kaldheim’s story is not one of sudden reinvention. It is about patience. About learning when to move slowly and when to be brave.
